NaNoWriMo 2010: Day 1

This year i decided to take that deep plunge into the 50,000 word deadline driven contest of the National Novel Writing Month, which happens to be in November. Today is my first day. i wrote for 3 hours and have 617 words. I'm supposed to have 1667 by the end of the day. Is it bad if i say i'm not off to such a great start? Yeah, i suppose that is bad, considering that the self-editor was supposed to be checked at the contest door.

To be honest, i expected to be so much further ahead than where i am now. i thought i'd breeze through the first day. I have, afterall, been plotting this book forever. i have been thinking about this second romance novel in spurts and half-starts over the last few years. This is so unlike the first romance novel i wrote, which i just did. No preambling about it. i had an idea, jotted down a rough outline, and went with it. But for my second novel, i decided that the first way i did was "wrong." The real way to write was to have it all mentally ready before you wrote down the first word.

And now, today, i'm mentally tangled. it's not flowing. i have 617 tortured words. And you want to know the funny part (but dont laugh!), my goal was to write double the daily quota, 3334 words, because my final novel length is actually 90,000 to 100,000. Okay, so laugh. It is funny.

It's 4:38 pm, and tonight my husband got tickets to the League of Extraordinary Comedians. So, i have to be finished by 6pm. Can i count these 285 words as part of my quota?

...ok, dont worry, i wont.
